78th Tour de Suisse promises thrills right through to the ultimate finish

The starting pistol for the 78th Tour de Suisse, covering 1,331 kilometres and with an elevation gain of 17,922 metres, will be fired today in Bellinzona at 13.56. The opening act in the fourth biggest tour, at over nine stages, is a 9.4 kilometre individual time trial where the specialists can demonstrate their abilities. 2009 Tour de Suisse winner Fabian Cancellara recently had a fall when riding his time trial bike, suffering grazes in the process, but despite this he will be highly motivated to do well in what is his home tour. One of the biggest challengers to the Olympic gold medallist and four-time world champion as he rides against the clock will be triple time trial world champion Tony Martin.
